Velika plaza suitable for kites

Ulcinj – Newly established Kitesurf Club “Dolcinium” from Ulcinj is going to open outdoor school of this popular extreme sport at Velika plaza (the Long Beach) next to famous Copacabana at the beginning of the season.

– Ulcinj is among top ten European destinations when it comes to conditions for kitesurfing, said the founder and the manager of “Dolcinium”- Arian Hadzibrahimi.

He points out that the club was established with the financial support of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media which provided necessary financial resources for acquisition of equipment.

– Promotion of our club in Delta City in Podgorica is scheduled for the first weekend in May. We expect support from the Municipality in all projects since this is in the best interest of the town and its tourism offer – said Hadzibrahimi.

He emphasized that “Dolcinium” is the first national kitesurf club and all others which exist in Montenegro are international.

Kitesurfing is the type of extreme sport where a board (such as snowboard) and a kite are used as basic equipment. Due to necessary wind-conditions, Velika Plaza and Ada are on the world kite maps for a long time.

A couple of years ago, the then world champion in kitesurfing who visited Ada – Fabrice – was unable to conceal his enthusiasm while he was estimating riding conditions for a kite.

Ulcinj Long Beach, 13 kilometers long, with average width of 50 meters, spreads from Porta Milena cove to the mouth of Bojana River. The Beach is at 4 kilometers distance from the centre of Ulcinj City. Ulcinj area is one of the sunniest areas in the Mediterranean with over 2700 hours of sunshine per year.

Shallow water, fine delicate sand and strong warm wind during the summertime make this location ideal for kiteboarding.

From mid-May to late September percentage frequency of 3 to 6 Beaufort wind force is 70%. Maestral, westerly wind, is blowing at an angle of 45 degrees over the shore, hence making the Long Beach an ideal place for both kiteboard beginners and proficient boarders.

Many artists have been inspired by natural charms of the Long Beach and Bojana River, because of their beauty, intact nature, mixture of river and sea smell. Whitish-gray sand is not only beautiful, but consists of 30 different minerals, while some of them are very rare and biologically active, hence often used for medical purposes.

Ada Bojana Island divides the Bojana River into two legs. A modern tourist settlement “Ada Bojana” is situated on the very island, with apartments, bungalows and campsite, offering everything needed for quiet and relaxed vacation.

On the right riverbank, there are pile dwellings and fishermen huts, and some of them are redecorated into cozy little seafood restaurants where you can eat the freshest fish, while others can be rented for private purposes. Only few kilometers from the mouth of Bojana River, at the back of the Long Beach, there are Gornji and Donji Stoj villages, offering many summer houses for private accommodation.
