Ulcinj: DPS takes power, Abazovic leaves

November 20, 2015   | Bota

Qyteti-UlqinitDemocratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will become part of the local government in Ulcinj at the end of November. The new government in Ulcinj will most likely consist of, in addition to DPS, Forca party and the Democratic Union of Albanians, learned Pobjeda daily.

This means that the United Reform Action (URA), that is, its deputy Dritan Abazovic, will lose his seat in the government of Ulcinj, while it remains to be seen what the future status of the Mayor of Ulcinj, Fatmir Djeka, and his coalition will be.

The Mayor of Ulcinj, whose mandate is expiring, had contact with the top of the DPS in Podgorica over the past few days, according to Pobjeda daily, demanding that he and his coalition also be included in the next local government.

The second option, which is at present less likely, is forming of local government between DPS, Djeka’s coalition and the Democratic Union of Albanians. Session of the local parliament at which the issue of confidence in the Mayor could be raised is planned for the end of the month, and November 26th is mentioned as the potential date.

President of Ulcinj DPS, Ijoro Nrekić, confirmed in a statement for Pobjeda that his party will certainly be part of the local government of Ulcinj, but could not specify coalition partners, explaining negotiations were still ongoing.

“I expect that by the end of November or early in December at the latest, recomposition of the political scene in Ulcinj will make DPS part of the local government, and we will take responsibility for the management of Ulcinj”, said Nrekić.

Forca party, Coalition “For the Future of Ulcinj” and Dritan Abazovic formed local government in Ulcinj at the beginning of February 2014.
