Ulcinj – One beached and one saved dolphin represents an epilogue to the drama which happened yesterday on Velika Plaza in Ulcinj.
Ilir Ljamovic from Ulcinj found the dead dolphin yesterday afternoon while he was walking the dog down the beach by the hotel ’Otrant’.
The dolphin weights 38kg and is 1.5 meters long. As later turned out, he was the one to save another dolphin of approximately the same weight and length.
– While I was observing the carcass, I’ve heard wriggling in the shallow and spotted yet another dolphin trying to free himself from the sand. I’ve stepped into the water and pull him towards the sea for almost half an hour, and he finally disappeared in the deep sea – told last night Ljamovic.
He said that he noticed tears in the dolphin’s eyes, disbelieving what he saw.
Probably the same dolphin, for a little while, beached next to Port Milena where it has been found by father and son –Enver and Gazmend Mila.
– We have thrown him into the sea. I am sad for this dead dolphin but still happy because we saved his companion – said last night Enver.
They have at once informed vessel unit and the Manager of the Public Company „Game Breeding and Protection“ Blerim Holovic who came immediately on the spot.
Nevres Djeric from the Association for Animal and Environment Protection from Kotor said to Daily Press „Vijesti“ that the dead dolphin should be returned to its natural habitat unless there are visible open wounds or blood on it.
He denied the possibility that the dolphins were entangled in fishing nets.
– They are way too intelligent to be entangled in fishing nets – said Djeric and added that they were probably baby-dolphins.
He emphasized that it is not the first time that people could witness tears in dolphin’s eyes when found in similar situations.
