Valuable investment of the “Coastal Zone Management” in Ulcinj: “By implementing this project we will have a safe haven for boats. So far, fishermen had to drag their boats ashore during bad weather” – said the General Manager Rajko Barovic. The project includes building a breakwater in length of 25-30 meters from the dock towards Mala Plaza.
Ulcinj – Public company for management of the coastal zone will invest EUR 1 million in the Municipality of Ulcinj for building a small port Kacema and land settlement next to it, said the General Manager of the “Coastal Zone Management” Rajko Barovic.
In the interview for Daily Press “Vijesti” he noted that construction works are already undertaken and in accordance with the implemented public supply procedure the main project has been done by “Mc-invest” from Tivat. The project contractor is Kotor-based company “Yu Briv”.
– By implementing this project we will have a safe haven for boats. So far, fishermen had to drag their boats ashore during bad weather – Barovic said.
He reminded that the natural cove “Kacema” is on the eastern side of the Old Town and it is only partially shielded from wind and waves.
– In order to have it entirely protected from bad weather impact, the project includes building a breakwater in length of 25-30 meters from the dock towards Mala Plaza. We intend to build a wave breaker on the existing dock which encloses the small port and on a newly built breakwater. – explained Barovic.
He mentioned that wave breaker is going to protect small port from big waves which break high beyond the dock in the extreme weather conditions.
– On the part of small port “Kacema” near the path leading to the dock we will build an operational plateau for settling boats which need small repair work. Ramps will connect this kind of shore with the sea and the road which leads to Mala Plaza. On the northern side of the plateau, on its widest part, small facility for security staff is going to be built as well as nautical shop and catering facility with toilets. – Barovic said.

He added that the depth of the new small port will be two meters with the capacity of 50 berths.

– Project documentation for further development of the small port “Kacema” and land settlement is in preparation process for the second phase of construction works. Project solution comprises improvement of the existing road in order to allow two-way traffic, and development of the shore including pavements, scales, modern equipment and street-light. I am certain that all this will meet demands and suite tastes of the local people and tourists- Barovic remarked.
