Velika Plaza and Ada Bojana put on hold until next year

Velika Plaža - Challenge of a LifetimeTender Commission for development of tourism potentials wait for better times: The deadline for submitting bids on the tender for long-term lease of Velika Plaza and Ada Bojana was extended until 15th February, 2010. Tourism Minister Nenezic says that this is a demanding project that needs systematic and comprehensive analysis prior to placing any bids. So far, “Hydra Properties” is the only developer in the race for “Challenge of a Lifetime”

Podgorica – The deadline for submitting bids on the tender for long-term lease of Velika Plaza and Ada Bojana was extended until 15th February, 2010, which is two and a half months longer than it was originally defined.

In accordance with the public tender, all interested parties could submit their bids until August 17th, and now the deadline has been rescheduled for October 15th.

The Chairman of the Tender Commission for development of Ada and the Minister of Tourism- Predrag Nenezic assessed yesterday that this is a demanding project.

– It will take a lot of time for potential investors to perform analysis that cover all aspects and prepare binding bid. Moreover, the first quarter of next year when the world economy starts to recover will be a better moment for collecting final bids – Nenezic said.

Tender Commission which supervises implementation of tourism development projects for Velika Plaza and Ada Bojana postpones for the second time deadline for submission of bids for these two projects which was made public by the end of March.

The company “Hydra Properties”, owned by the Royal family of Abu Dhabi – Al Nahyan, is the only company to purchase the tender documents for Velika Plaza and Ada Bojana so far.

According to tenders, only bids of those participants with relevant working experience within the period from 2000 to 2008 will be taken into consideration. This relevant experience refers to being part of major projects concerning development of real estates, in particular – objects for different purposes including hotels, tourism, recreational, cultural, educational, housing, business premises and shopping centers which cover total area of at least 750.000 square meters and worth more than one billion Euros.

One of conditions that bidders have to meet is that their annual turnover was at least 400 million Euros per each year within the period 2006 – 2008.

The project for development of Velika Plaza provides for long-term lease of 903 ha state-owned land and 316 ha of private property for the period of 90 years.

On the island Ada which has a 2.7 kilometer-long and 30 meter-wide beach, which is also offered for lease on 90 years, there will be built 2.500 beds, predominantly in tourism accommodation, and a few residential objects, while three quarters of the island will remain natural resorts where no construction will take place.
