Greece assists Montenegro’s flooding crisis – Video of Ulcinj

December 6, 2010   | Rajoni / Region

The flooding crisis in Montenegro is getting more severe, as the level of Skadar Lake, the largest lake in the Balkans, continues to grow.  Military and civilian aid and rescue teams are working round the clock to provide relief to thousands of people in the flood affected areas throughout the country. The military is working hard building embankments along the Bojana River, in order to mitigate the damage caused to Montenegro’s southernmost city of Ulcinj. The situation is somewhat improving in the central and northern part of the country, where water levels have decreased slightly, but the infrastructure is badly damaged and a large number of local roads are still under water leaving many rural areas cut off. As a token of solidarity and friendship, the Greek Government has decided to send urgent aid which will reach Montenegro on Monday, Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas has told his Montenegrin counterpart Milan Rocan.
