Top seeds Tunisia tumbled 2-1 to Luxembourg on the opening day of Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group III in Ulcinj, Montenegro.
The Tunisians got off to a strong start when Chiraz Bechri overcame Eleonora Molinaro 62 46 63, but a second rubber win for Mandy Minella over Ons Jabeur 63 46 64 proved the catalyst for a comeback. Minella and Claudine Schaul then combined to defeat Bechri and Jabeur 46 76(6) 62 to seal a famous win.
Elsewhere in Pool A, Greece defeated Malta 3-0. The Greeks dropped just four games in the three rubbers contested at the Bellvue in Ulcinj.
Pool C saw another seed upset on the first day as Moldova were left on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline against Madagascar. With the score level after the two singles rubbers, Sandra Andriamarosoa and Zarah Razafimahatratra clinched a third set tiebreak to win 63 16 76(3) against Daniela Ciobanu and Julia Helbet.
Cyprus overcame Algeria 2-1 in the other tie taking place in Pool C on Monday.
In Pool D, hosts and No. 4 seeds Montenegro showed no remorse for Fed Cup newcomers Kosova with three straight-set victories sealing a 3-0 scoreline in favour of the hosts. Norway also defeated Morocco by the same scoreline.
